Update to the JavaScript Cookie Library

Filed under: Technology — by Jim on May 20, 2006 @ 7:37 pm

Several months ago, I wrote a JavaScript library for cookie interaction. I have now updated it to version 1.1.

Check out the new Cookie Library (cookieLib v1.1) which now resides the jimAuld JS namespace and has a method for testing whether a browser accepts cookies.

Fantastic programming

Filed under: Technology — by Jim on May 16, 2006 @ 8:15 pm

My buddy Dustin, a Yahoo! developer, has written a version of Tetris in Javascript. Not only does it function beautifuly, but the graphic design is pretty slick too.

If you know much about me, you know that web developing is my passion. And within web development, JavaScript is my true love. I only wish I had the time to play around with it like Dustin gets to. And he get’s paid for it, no less!

Gettin’ Naked!

Filed under: Technology — by Jim on April 2, 2006 @ 8:55 pm

That’s right, on April 5th the Auldridges are gettin’ NAKED! At least, the site is going naked. In honor of the first annual Naked Day, started by Dustin Diaz, the Auldridge site will shed it’s CSS.

What’s the point? Well you can read more about it in the links I put in the last paragraph, but the reason is to show the purpose of properly structured web page documents before you add the styling in. A web page consists of content, and that content must be strucutred into a document. It is only after properly structuring your content that you design the page. By turning off the design, we’ll show that the page is still usable because the document is properly structured. It’s a web developer (read: geek) thing.

Birthday Party Pictures

Filed under: Daily Life — by Jim on March 5, 2006 @ 10:07 am

Picutres from yesterday’s birthday party are online now: March 2006 Birthday Party Pictures

These are pictures of cake and ice cream time, and present unwrapping. We had a piņata as well, but since I was running that portion of the party, I couldn’t get pictures. However, I saw Nana snapping plenty during that time, so maybe she’ll e-mail them over and we can add them as well (hint hint, Nana ;) ).

Happy Birthday, Boys!

Filed under: The Kids, Daily Life — by Jim on March 4, 2006 @ 11:07 am

Well, it’s March again and that means birthdays, birthdays, birthdays! Between our family and our extended family, March is full of ‘em. And this weekend we are kicking it off!

Caleb turned 3 yesterday, March 3 2006. And Gabe will turn 9 tomorow on March 5 2006. So today is their party and I want to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY boys!

I remember 6 years ago when we celebrated Gabe’s 3rd birthday. It was my first time to celebrate a birthday with him, Shari and I wouldn’t be married for another month yet. It was a good time in sunny Tucson with some of his playmates from daycare.

I also remember only 3 years ago on 3/3/3 (March 3 2003) when Caleb was born into our lives. It’s weird remebering watching the Iraq war kick off on television during a middle of the night diaper change and feeding for our little infant.

A lot has changed since each of those events, and the little guys aren’t so little any more. Our youngest isn’t a baby any more and Gabe is showing signs of pre-teen hood being right around the corner. Shari still tears up thinking about how they grow out of babiness.

So anyway, I just want to say I love all of you boys! Happy birthday Gabe and Caleb and I hope we all have a great time partying this afternoon!

Love,
Dad

Adoption Update, Feb 2006

Filed under: Adoption — by Jim on February 21, 2006 @ 3:31 pm

Just a note about the current state of the adoption. The last we heard, in early January, our paperwork had been assembled and translated and was on the way to Panama. This means we are now just waiting for the Panamanian court system to review and approve us before we start to get referrals for a child. From what we hear, this waiting is the longest portion of the process.

Financially we have been very blessed thus far. We are very pleased to see the donations in the church fund, and we have been able to come up with large portions on our own. We are still in need of several thousand to finish up, though, so prayers in that area are appreciated.

Given that we have only been at work on this for 10 months, though, progress looks very good!

Let’s Do This…

Filed under: Daily Life — by Jim on February 12, 2006 @ 1:19 pm

Our lives have been nuts for 2006 thus far. So we have not posted at all. But I figure I need to at least sit down and explain that for a second.

So what’s been going on? Well, my work has been crazy. We have a ton of new systems being installed, personnel changes taking place, and big problems popping up that need to be worked on. So I have very little time to just develop or post here like I used to.

At home Shari and I have a lot of things happening. Gabe has Karate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Christian has Soccer Tuesdays, and they both have Awanas on Wednesdays.

As for Shari, she does her volunteer work with mentoring teen/young mothers. This involves meeting with the girl she mentors, helping her with her GED, meetings with the mentor program, and other things. It also involves us baby sitting Haily here and there (she is so sweet!). Shari also goes to MOPS when they meet.

I am often working on wiring (telephone, network, cable) for people or developing websites. (One I am working on right now is for a new Church in Hagerstown, Hub City Vineyard.)

Also, Shari and I work in our church teaching Sunday School, doing the nursery, teaching children’s sermons, and others things. All of this takes prep time in the week too.

When one of us is busy handling any of those tasks, the other has to take care of our three boys, which is a lot in itself! :) So we are always on the run right now and the web site suffers. But you don’t mind, do you?

Anyway, that explains it. I have to go take care of the boys now while I am waiting for Shari to get home with Haily.

I guess I’m supposed to say…

Better yet, HAPPY BIRTHDAY Shari! Yes, it is my lovely wife’s 27th birthday today! She’s so pretty. :)
